Child safety: SC wants to hear Centre, states

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday sought the response from the Centre and all states on a plea by two women lawyers for laying down child safety conditions to protect school-going children from offences like sexual abuse and murder.
A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud asked Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar to accept notice on behalf of the Union government in the PIL filed by lawyers Abha R Sharma and Sangeeta Bharti.
Both the Centre and the states have been asked to file their reply within three weeks. After a petition by Barun Chandra Thakur, the father of a murdered child in Gurgram school for safety guidelines in school across the country, the women advocates have moved the court with their separate petition for strict implementation of existing norms.
